Using Your Election Resources: How to Find the Information You Need

Get a deeper understanding of several important websites and search tools presented in the Registrar of Voters Foundations Course Sections 1 and 3 including: SOTS, SEEC, ROVAC, & CGA, CT Library and FOIC.

Advance your personal productivity with a more in depth knowledge of how to find answers to those plauguing questions. We all know that Registrars are the "go to" people. Have the data that the public wants right at your fingertips.

This course will provide the sources and navigation to independently research questions before (or in lieu of) reaching out to the Secretary of the State's Office or State Elections Enforcement Commission.

Course Objectives: 

  • Attendees will take a closer look at the following websites:  SOTS, SEEC, ROVAC, CGA.CT.gov, CT Library, FOIA.  The instructor will walk through the websites in real time with the attendees so they can better understand how to navigate them and how to find the information relevant to varying circumstances that arise during their day to day duties.
  • On site, "hands on" use of PCs for experiential learning. . 
  • Take a deep dive into the details of relevant CT election statutes and regulations. Search for  a bill, public act, statute or regulation. You get a clear explanation of search results, and best practices.
  • Walk through different sample searches in real time with the attendees so that they can better understand how to search for a statute or regulation.  Attendees will then be asked to search for different information in class and the instructor will answer/address questions/challenges that arise during said searches.

Intended Audience:

Available for any Registrar, his/her deputy, or municipal colleague. Anyone who needs a thorough understanding of how to search websites to find the information necessary to independently answer the questions from the public, on Connecticut statutes and regulations. Definitely, a useful course for any individual working in the election administration field that seeks election laws and related resources, including lobbyists, election administration attorneys, and other campaign support staff.

Delivery Method:

Instructor led, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities. Classroom Training: 4 Hours. Location: UConn Hartford campus, or Distance Learning at Stamford Campus.
